U17’s hit 223 from 20 overs with Will Hammersley top scoring with 94

After losing last week to Oxford U17’s we need to win our remaining games if we are to reach finals day again and retain our trophy.

After winning the toss skipper Oli Shaw elected to bat first on another glorious evening. Openers Jamie Revill and Will Hammersley set the pace for the rest of the innings, after 2 overs the score had moved to 23 with both batsmen hitting 4’s and 6’s. With the score on 40 in the 3rd over Jamie was bowled for 16. Oli joined Will at the crease and the pair continued the high run rate. Will was taking advantage of some short pitched bowling and sending the ball to all parts of the ground and with the score on 82 in the 6th over Oli was caught at Long On by a fantastic low diving catch for 16 with the score on 82.

David White was next in and rotated the strike well keeping Will on the strike and the 100 came up in only the 8th over! The score had moved onto 135 in the 11th over when David was caught for 14. James Coles was next in and his first ball was a low full toss which disappeared over the scoreboard for 6! Will’s approach now was to save energy so he decided to hit boundaries including 2 successive big 6’s in the 13th over. With the home batsmen looking for the lost balls in the field and with the supply of spare pink balls running out, the score had moved on to 172 in the 14th over when Will was bowled for a splendid 94. Casper Mason joined James in the middle and the pair batted out the remaining overs. James reached his 50 before the ARCC’s innings closed on 223 from 20 overs with James on 53 and Casper 12.

In reply Oli changed the bowling order and opened with Sam Chown and Rafe Mason. It was Rafe who got the breakthrough after a catch by Carrick with the score on 24 and a few balls later Rafe and Carrick did the same again to leave Horspath on 24 for 2 from 4 overs. Sam then had their opener caught down the leg side by a smart catch by stand in keeper James Coles with the score on 26. Next over Rafe picked up his 3rd wicket after a catch by his brother Casper with the score on 33.

Louis Summons replaced Sam and bowled a tight line and in his 2nd over picked up a wicket after a catch by Jamie and Louis followed this up with another wicket in his 3rd over after another catch by Carrick to leave Horspath on 52 for 6.

No more wickets fell and Carrick, Oli and Will bowled out the remaining overs and Horspath closed their innings on 111.

Next game is an away trip to Bicester and North Oxford on Monday 23rd July.
