U19’s start with a 5 wicket win over Horspath
Horspath 95-6 from 20 overs ARCC 96.5 from 19.2 overs
41 not out by Manan Palmar and 3 wickets from Tom Brine helped the U19’s start the season with a win over Horspath.
After losing the toss Aston Rowant were asked to bowl first on another hot evening. Opening bowlers Tom Brine and David White couldn’t have started any better with David picking up a wicket with his first ball after a low catch behind the stumps by Jamie Revill with the score on 7. Next over Tom trapped their other opener in front of the stumps to pick up his 1st wicket and in Toms 3rd over he picked up 2 more wickets to leave Horspath struggling on 15 for 4 from 5 overs.
Horspath rebuilt their innings and moved the score onto 49 when David Porter went for a caught and bowled only to deflect the ball onto the stumps leaving the non-striker stranded out of his crease. Rafe Mason picked up a wicket in his 3rd over and soon after Horspath closed their innings on 95 for 6 from their 20 overs.
In reply Captain George Reid and Manan Palmar opened the batting and started very well and had moved the score onto 17 in the 2nd over when George was caught for 9. Rory Wilson was next in and with Manan hitting the short balls to the boundary the score was ticking along nicely when Rory was caught for 6 with the score on 42 in the 8th over. Duncan Holt was next in but bowled off his pads without scoring and Tom supported Manan until Tom was bowled leaving the home side on 62 for 4 from 12 overs. Ben Porter joined Manan and the pair batted well and calmed the home supports nerves and pushed the score onto 90 when Ben was caught for 15 with the score on 90 in the 17th Over. David was next in and the pair knocked off the last few runs to leave Aston Rowant winners by 5 wickets with Manan unbeaten on 41.
Many thanks to Clare White for scoring
